Francesca is retired, Christian is a teacher of religion, Alberto teaches religion too, but only in the morning: he is a swimming instructor in the afternoon.
Three stories that would never be intertwined, except in the Holy Land.

FRANCESCA
Volunteer
"I came on a pilgrimage many years ago and I fell in love with the Holy Land and with Jerusalem.
A few years later, my nephew told me not to worry, that he would speak to the Franciscans. He is a priest who came here to study and that is how my story in the Holy Land began. I have been here for the last seven years.”

CHRISTIAN
Volunteer
"It was love at first sight during my first trip to the Holy Land in 2001 when I came with a group; this love has grown more and more, so, for the last 4-5 years I have been devoting my summer to the service of the Sanctuaries of the Friars Minor.”

ALBERTO
Volunteer
"In 2005, I came on a pilgrimage for a week, but one week is not enough. We should come back and meditate about the experiences lived here, so I asked to be given the opportunity to serve the Church of the Holy Land and the Custody of the Friars.”

They perform several tasks at the service of the Franciscans of the Holy Land. Some give a hand to the Shrine of the Flagellation, cataloguing the finds that will be exhibited in the future Museum, others assist in the tailor shop of the Custody, arranging clothes or liturgical lining. There are also those who simply make themselves available for any service to the friars and to their needs, experiencing in this way a new reward without compensation.

ALBERTO
Volunteer
“The experience of being here to share with the friars the monastery life and to serve at the various sanctuaries of the Holy Land, enriches my soul and gives me joy. We came here to help and to dedicate our time to the service of this beautiful land! We truly enjoy this Christian experience!

FRANCESCA

"The Holy Land is everything. It is where Jesus lived! Sometimes my mind pauses to think: wow! I am walking where Jesus walked, where He lived! "

CHRISTIAN

"The land of Jesus has a charm that can not be resisted. The more you visit these sites, the more your love for these places increases; you get to love not just the places, but also the meetings that happen here with people from around the world: you find correlation between your faith and your life experiences and those of others, which makes us grow in faith.”

Every year, in the summer, many people who travel from different countries of the world, return to Jerusalem and to the holy places guarded by the Franciscan Friars, to donate their time and to serve in the Custody.

Father EUGENIO ALLIATA, ofm
Custody of the Holy Land
"They are contributing with the donation of themselves and of their talents for the service of others. They are giving what God donated them and I believe that a spiritual awareness rises from this service. The purpose of the Custody of the Holy Land and of the Franciscans is, indeed, to enhance the spirit.”
